I Don't Fuck With You. You guys, this song is really speaking to me right now. Lemme tell you my favorite line: I've got a million trillion things that I'd rather fucking do than to be fucking with you (Got a million things on my mind... limited amount of time)
If this doesn't speak to the reality of boundaries and opportunity costs and the importance of saying no then i don’t know what does! Please don’t google the lyrics though. This is not an inspirational song that i’m suggesting you listen to. In fact, it’s a mess, but you know what? I’ve added it to the gym playlist because I like hearing it while I do box jumps and I’m really looking forward to saying to someone or something one day, very calmly, “i’ve got a million trillion things that i’d rather fucking do than to be fucking with you. and i mean that in the nicest way possible. it’s just that i’ve got a million things on my mind and limited amounts of time and this just isn’t how i’m willing to spend my fucks these days”
Here are a few things that I’d like to not be fucking with: taxes, bills in general, non-team players, the water jugs at the gym, a text thread that is blowing me up that i really just cannot with rn, expectations.
Instead, I’d like to spend my fucks here: connecting, really connecting, sweating, personal growth, a few particular projects that I’m working on regarding sweating and growth, empowering myself and my team to show up anyway, really connecting over martinis. More martinis.
How are you spending your time, your energy, your money? Those are the fucks that you have, and far too often than not, we're just throwing them around like we have an unlimited amount of fucks to give! We all know that's not true... otherwise "I Don't Fuck With You" wouldn't have been streamed over 250 MILLION times on Spotify.
This TED Talk is 12 minutes. Watch it. Reevaluate your fuck budget. And then do it again, and again, and again. You'll get better at it. I promise.
It's not rude to say no - it's called setting up boundaries. And boundaries are healthy and kind for everyone involved.
